Quick checks before a callout

Commercial Equipment Fault Finder

Choose the equipment and work through these simple checks. Your answers will be added to the engineer request so we can understand the problem sooner.

Stop and switch the equipment off if there is smoke, a burning smell, sparking, a gas smell or a significant water leak. Do not remove panels or attempt an internal repair. Call us on 01202 377205 if you are unsure.

1. Is the equipment switched on and showing power?

Check the normal power switch and the wall isolator. Only check the consumer unit if you are authorised and it is safe to do so.

2. Is the water supply turned on?

For dishwashers, glasswashers, combi ovens and other water-fed equipment, check the visible supply valve is open and the hose is not kinked.

3. Is the door, lid or drawer fully closed?

Remove any obvious obstruction and close it firmly. Do not force a damaged catch, hinge or seal.

4. Are the user-removable filters and visible drains clear?

Remove only items intended for routine operator cleaning. Clear visible food debris and refit them correctly; do not dismantle the machine.

5. For gas equipment, is the normal gas supply available?

Check only the normal user control and visible isolation valve. If you smell gas, do not continue: turn the appliance off, ventilate the area and follow your gas emergency procedure.

6. Are the ventilation openings clear?

Make sure boxes, cloths and other items are not blocking visible air vents. Allow hot equipment to cool safely.

7. Is an error or warning code showing?

Make a note of the exact code or message, together with the equipment make and model if visible.

8. Is there smoke, a burning smell, sparking, a gas smell or a significant leak?

If yes, stop using the equipment and isolate it only where it is safe to do so.

If these checks have not solved the fault, send the results to CEMCO and book an engineer.
